We have all heard the adage, “Any man can create a baby, but it takes a real man to be a father.” Well, there have been no words truer when it comes to my husband, Norris M. Nelson.
Norris and I met in February 2006. At that time, my daughter was 2 1/2 years old, and I was a single mother. As we dated, Norris stepped in and began filling the shoes of her father. He has and continues to support her in each and every endeavor she takes on. He interacts with her as if she is his biological child. They play together, go to the movies together, attend father-daughter dances and just take time to share and talk with each other. He is one of the most giving people I know. Whatever he has to give that will make our lives better, he offers without question.
Norris and I have been married for two and a half years now. The love and care that flow from his heart each and every day he breathes, shows not only me, but my now-8-year-old daughter just who and what a father is. My daughter says that her father is “cool.” He is not only cool, he is thoughtful, kind, open-hearted, caring, fun — just an all-around great guy. Everything he does, he does with love — love for my daughter, love for me, love for himself, love for our family. He is a reflection of God’s love for me, and I am grateful to the Almighty above for sending him into my life. I am able to make a better life for my daughter because of all he is and all he gives.
Happy Father’s Day to each and every man who steps up to the plate and does what should be in the forefront of your life, if you have children. I want to send a special thank you to my wonderful husband, Norris Nelson, for always listening, for the selfless acts you consistently give, and mostly for the endless amount of love you show to me and our daughter each and every day.
