How did you get into the wedding business?

Wedding and event planning initially started as a hobby for me, and I was blessed to turn my passion into my business.

What trends do you see now versus a few years ago?

I love that everything about the wedding today is customized to fit the couple’s style and personality. No more cookie-cutter weddings.

What are the top five things couples should be aware of when planning their nuptials?

1. Come up with an expected guest count, and write down the guest list in the beginning.
2. Decide on a comfortable budget range before booking or meeting vendors.
3. It never hurts to ask. Even if it’s never been done before, many vendors are excited to try something new.
4. Work with a wedding planner from the beginning, if possible. A wedding planner works for you, not the venue or any of your other vendors. A good wedding planner will always represent your best interests and help you avoid pitfalls during the wedding-planning process.
5. Have fun! If wedding planning becomes stressful, take a break, re-evaluate your priorities and jump back into the planning. This day is about the bride and groom. So, do what is best for the two of you, and don’t worry about pleasing everyone.

For couples on a serious budget, can you offer them any advice?

Limit your guest count. Guest count is the number one driving force of the budget. If you limit your guests to the people that mean the most to you, then you won’t have to stretch your budget and sacrifice the quality of your wedding.

What colors or decorations are becoming very popular for this season?
With my weddings, it’s always about a custom and cohesive look — how the different elements, from stationery, lighting, drape, linen and flowers, blend together to create a “Wow!” factor. So, whether it’s bold and colorful or simple and elegant, we want the guests to leave our weddings saying ,”That was so them,” and “Everything was so beautiful.”
