Idris Elba Storms Out of BET Awards Press Room

Idris Elba Storms Out of BET Awards Press Room

At this year’s BET Awards 2011, the press room became a little heated when Idris Elba was bombarded with a barrage of pointed questions that ultimately caused him to storm out of the room in disbelief. Elba was greeted by a room of photographers and eager journalists as he took to the stage just moments after winning the BET “Best  Actor” award.

As you will see in the video, Elba was asked to elaborate on or “explain better” why he chose to not take part in Tyler Perry’s Madea film. The journalist who asked the question was following up on a recent interview in which Elba explained why he did not want to be a part of the Tyler Perry film. After directing the journalist back to the original interview, she still asked the question, “So, ‘no’ to Madea?”  A frustrated, yet composed, Elba again redirected her back to read his original interview.

Upon arriving in the press room, Elba appeared elated and happy about winning the BET Award. However, after a few of cutting questions, he left the room looking deflated, betrayed and confused. To make matters worse, some random guy with a “British accent” and holding a microphone rushed him immediately after exiting the stage and can actually be heard on a loudspeaker in the video randomly asking Elba to wish someone a happy birthday.  Moments after leaving the press room, @IdrisElba took to his Twitter page and tweeted “What jus happend??”

It was truly disappointing to see Elba leave in such frustration because there were journalists present who wanted to ask uplifting and congratulatory questions, celebrating his continued success as a rising star in Hollywood. In fact, a few of the other journalists even yelled at the interrogating woman, “Thanks for running him out of the room, lady!”
