Prison Officials Reveal Why DMX's Sentence Was Extended

DMX, who was originally set to be released from prison on July 12, was ordered to remain in prison for another week after it was reported that he was caught with drugs. Now, amid various allegations, prison officials have come forward and revealed that DMX wasn’t caught smuggling drugs. He failed a drug test.

“He did not smuggle drugs into prison,” stated Arizona Department of Corrections spokesman Barrett Marson to RumorFix. “He failed a drug test, I don’t know what drugs he took, but that’s it. He was due to be released today but will now be released on July 19th.”

Although DMX’s name has now been (somewhat) cleared, the rapper was far from a perfect inmate. According to prison records, DMX racked up seven disciplinary violations including drug test failure, disrespectful and disorderly conduct and possession of drugs since he began his stay in the Yuma, Ariz., state prison in January.

Despite his current prison stay, DMX has reportedly been working on his seventh and eighth studio albums, the first of which, Redemption of the Beast, will include the forthcoming single “Ya’ll Don’t Know” featuring fellow rap veteran Busta Rhymes. –nicholas robinson
