Guess Who Was Awarded the Nearly $77,000 Ring?

A few weeks ago the Internet was buzzing about “The Greatest Marriage Proposal Ever,” a  romantic little YouTube video with over 17 million hits featuring a guy who creatively popped the question to his girlfriend via a movie trailer.

Unfortunately, for Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Roy Williams, his version of an onscreen proposal didn’t go over so well. In what could be dubbed the least romantic marriage proposal ever, Williams mailed (yes, mailed) a nearly $77,000 engagement ring to his then-girlfriend Brooke Daniels, along with $5,000 cash and a video of him asking her to be his wife.

Daniels declined Williams’ offer but kept the ring, allegedly at Williams’ insistence. According to Daniels’ father, Michael Daniels, Williams told his daughter he didn’t want the ring back because he believed she would eventually change her mind.

She didn’t.

Williams filed suit for the return of the rock and, to avoid the legal wrangling, Brooke Daniels returned it.

If you were asked to judge that case, would you have given Williams his ring back? –kathleen cross
