After the tragic death of singer Amy Winehouse on July 23, many have been wondering how the demise of such a talented artist could have been prevented. And although many people have laid blame upon Winehouse’s ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, reports are now claiming that Winehouse’s ex is claiming that he planned on saving the troubled singer.
According to TMZ, Fielder-Civil’s father, Larry Civil, told the gossip site that his son, who admitted to introducing Winehouse to hard-core drugs, planned to stage an intervention for Winehouse upon his release from prison in March 2012. Fielder-Civil is currently serving a 32-month sentence for burglary and a firearm offense.
According to The Sun, Winehouse told friends weeks ago that her ex was the only person that could save her and upon learning of her death, Fielder-Civil sank into depression.
“I will never ever again feel the love I felt for her,” said Fielder-Civil. “Everybody who knew me and knew Amy knew the depth of our love. I can’t believe she’s dead.”
Fielder-Civil’s current girlfriend, Sarah Aspin, the mother of his newborn son, Jack, visited the former music video production assistant after Winehouse’s death and told The Sun that Fielder-Civil, who’s under heavy watch from staff, is an emotional wreck.
“He is devastated and shattered. He just can’t take it in that she’s dead and he’ll never see her again,” said Aspin, adding that her boyfriend was still in love with the singer. “Blake is the father of our son. But I saw him and Amy together and I know they were really in love and they were soul mates. “She always loved him and he always loved her — but it was just never going to work.
Winehouse and Fielder-Civil began dating in 2005 and were married from 2007 to 2009. Throughout their volatile relationship, which inspired the singer’s landmark Back to Black album, the couple’s wildly dysfunctional love and drug-fueled battles became major fodder for tabloids around the globe. In 2008, Fielder-Civil took the blame for fostering Winehouse’s (who was a already a noted party girl) drug addictions.
“I made the biggest mistake of my life by taking heroin in front of her. I introduced her to heroin, crack cocaine and self-harming. I feel more than guilty,” said Fielder-Civil to News of the World.
Though many assume that Winehouse’s death was caused by her drug addiction, results from a recent autopsy came back inconclusive. Winehouse was cremated on Tuesday, July 26, at the Golders Green Crematorium following a private funeral service at Edgwarebury Cemetery in Edgware, north London. Reports claim that Fielder-Civil was left out of Winehouse’s £10 million will. Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, plans to set up a foundation in his daughter’s name to help people struggling with addiction. –nicholas robinson
