Hip-hop’s godfather of ganja, Snoop Dogg, has been professing his love for the good green leaf since he first stepped into the rap arena nearly two decades ago. And in a recent free-association style interview with Esquire, the marijuana loving lyricist recounts his first time getting high at the age of 9 or 10.
“The first time I got high off marijuana was in the ’70s, with one of my uncles,” said Snoop. “They had these little roaches on the table — these part-way-smoked marijuana cigarettes — and there was some Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull. I went in there and sipped the Schlitz, and my uncle asked me did I wanna hit that roach. And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He put it on the roach clip for me and lit it up, and I hit that motherf—-r. I was about 8 or 9 years old.”
His Royal Highness added that weed “makes me feel the way I need to feel.”
In the article, Snoop also discusses coaching his sons in football, President Obama, his legendary nickname and even a funny account of his time performing at a child’s bar mitzvah.
“I performed at a bar mitzvah. And I’m telling you, man, these little motherf—–s, they were singing my s–t, they was cussin’, they were singing the dirty version,” recalls Snoop. “I’m talking about 12- and 13-year-old little white kids singin’ this real gangsta s–t. Man. I was shocked. I just gave them the mic and let them motherf—–s go.”
