Black Actors Score Big at the Box Office With 'The Help' and 'Final Destination 5'

Hollywood’s Black actors made an amazing impact on this past weekend’s box office. Despite the #1 spot being locked down by ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, the following two spots are held by ‘The Help’ (Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer) and ‘Final Destination 5’ (Courtney B. Vance and Arlen Escarpeta). According to Herald.ie:

The Planet Of The Apes prequel came in just ahead of The Help, a drama about black maids in Mississippi during the Civil Rights era that debuted at number two with $25.5m.

The Warner Bros horror sequel Final Destination 5, the latest in the franchise where death stalks victims who had been fated to die earlier, opened at number three with $18.4m.

What’s even more amazing is that ‘The Help’ was shown in 1100 theaters LESS than ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’!!! And Viola and Octavia’s performances have already generated an Oscar buzz.
