Last month, late rapper Tupac “2Pac” Shakur’s former rap group, Outlawz, confirmed the long held rumor that following ‘Pac’s death, they smoked his cremated ashes in memorial to the iconic rapper. Now, Tupac’s family is now denying the claim, saying it would have been impossible for the Outlawz to smoke Tupac’s ashes.
According to TMZ, as word spread of the bizarre story, so did claims from the rappers that ‘Pac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, was present when they mixed his ashes with weed and smoked it in a beach memorial service. However, a spokesperson for the family said that Afeni would “never participate in smoking her son.”
The spokesperson also claimed that no one in the family approved of the alleged smoking memorial and that, while the family isn’t sure of whether the Outlawz’s allegations are true, it’s highly unlikely that their extremely strange memorial service happened.
According to the spokesperson, the Outlawz “would have had to sneak the remains past the family member in charge of keeping an eye on the ashes at the memorial.”
Despite refuting the California collective’s claims, the Shakur family has, at this present time, chosen not to take legal action against the Outlawz.
Legal action may be off the table, but the Outlawz could at least offer the family an apology. –nicholas robinson
