Carmelo Anthony Talks Balancing Sports and BusinessWhen Carmelo Anthony became a New York Knick in the spring of 2011, it was expected that his brand would grow tremendously while being in the media and business capital of the world. Anthony recently signed with Johnson Products Company Inc. to promote Ultra Sheen’s men’s products. The NBA All-Star recently made an appearance at Walmart Supercenter in Union City, Ga., to promote the line and meet with fans. Before signing autographs, Anthony spoke with rolling out sports about the importance of expanding his brand.–amir shaw

How did your partnership with Johnson Products occur?


It came about several months ago. When I got to New York, we discussed the brand [and] I realized it was a good fit for both parties. The company has been around for 50 years and I understand what they are trying to do. They have longevity and they always figure out new, innovative ways to brand products.

From a business standpoint, why was it important to meet with fans at Walmart in Union City, Georgia?


It was important to come to Union City. It’s a place where no one would ever expect me to be. It’s always great to be with the people in this community and it allows us to reach more consumers and raise awareness.

How do you balance business and sports?

My number one priority is training and being the best athlete that I can be. For the most part, basketball comes first and everything else comes second. But once I’m off the court, I can focus on my business endeavors and making sure that everything is in line.
