'Basketball' Wife Jackie Christie’s Mother Dies of Cancer

On “Basketball Wives: LA,” fans bore witness as star Jackie Christie dealt with the sobering reality of her mother’s struggle with liver cancer. Sadly, earlier this week, Christie announced that her mother had succumbed to the illness.

A heartbroken Jackie Christie made the announcement just hours after her mother’s passing during an interview with “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” on Sept. 19.

“I just lost my mother a few hours ago,” Christie said. “She’s had a long fight with it, and I know she’s in a better place, and it was her time. So, we’re OK with it.”

During a recent episode of the reality show, Christie revealed her worry that her mother wouldn’t be able to make it to her annual wedding to retired NBA star Doug Christie. However, in the interview, Christie happily revealed that her mother was able to attend.

“She did make it in time for that so that will be my special wedding out of the 16 that we’ve had,” said Christie, also thanking VH1 for their support throughout the ordeal.

And though the VH1 reality show has been rife with violence and drama, Christie revealed that her mother, though not without a few concerns, was supportive of the show.

“My mom, she was OK with it,” said Christie.

A mother herself, Christie also discussed her relationship with her eldest daughter, Takari, who recently shared some harsh words about her mother on Twitter.

“She put those malicious stories out there that are so far from the truth, I can’t even begin to fathom it,” shared Christie, who said she’s tried to be a great mom. “She apologized, and we talk every day, and she pretty much has stopped going on her Twitter.”

Our condolences go out to Christie and her family. –nicholas robinson
