Texas Rangers Win Game 5 of World Series; Top 5 Black Players in World Series History

Ron Washington is only one game away from becoming just the second black manager to capture a World Series title. Washington led the Texas Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in game 5 of the 2011 World Series.

Although Washington is currently the most prominent black American in the 2011 World Series, there are several black players who will be remembered for their accomplishments in MLB’s biggest games. Here are the top five black players in World Series history. –amir shaw

Reggie Jackson

Known as Mr. October for his monstrous swing during big games, Reggie Jackson hit 10 home runs in 27 World Series games. He hit five during the 1977 World Series.
