Do You Have the Skills to Be an Astronaut? Starting Salary ... $141,715

NASA is looking for a few good men and women to fill entry-level positions in their Houston-based space program.

The U.S.  federal government’s jobs website  posted an announcement on  Nov. 15 for “outer space explorers” who would be willing to relocate to the International Space Station.

The starting salary ranges from $64,724 to 141,715 per year. Among the qualifications required are:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, or mathematics
  • 20/20 vision
  • No blood pressure problems
  • A physique that will fit into a space suit

The agency is looking to add 9 to 15 full-time positions in Houston, but the position is limited to U.S. citizens who can pass background checks, drug tests, and a rigorous physical.

Duties will include robot operation, conducting experiments, spaceship maintenance, extravehicular activties (i.e., space walks); and “long-duration misssions” aboard the ISS.

The training program last two to three years — after applicants endure a yearlong interview process.

Oh, and, “Frequent travel may be required.”
