Hip-hop has come a long way when it comes to the Grammy Awards. During the 1980s, hip-hop was shunned by the Grammy Awards. In 1989, LL Cool J, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince and Salt-N-Pepa boycotted the ceremony after the producers would not televise the winners of Best Rap Performance. And Jay-Z boycotted the Grammys in 1999 and 2002 because he felt the Grammys did not respect rap.
Steve Stoute recently spoke out against the organizers of the Grammy Awards for eliminating several rap and R& B categories for the 2012 ceremony.
However, hip-hop artists played prominent roles at the Grammy Nominations Concert held on Nov. 30.
