Mavis Staples, Chaka Khan and Erykah Badu Honor Memphis
While paying homage to the great soul records of Memphis, Erykah Badu, Mavis Staples, Chaka Khan sang the The Staples Singers’ classic “I’ll Take You There.” Mavis, of course, stole the show, while Chaka Khan did her signature yells. But it was Erykah Badu who surprisingly gained our attention when, at the beginning of the performance, she squealed with delight and relinquished the stage to Chaka and Mavis and proceeded to walk around smiling and doing backup vocals for the two.
