For Colored Girls was written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry, who based the film off the 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. The movie featured an amazing which included Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Thandie Newton, Loretta Devine, Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, and Kerry Washington. The film which depicts the interconnected lives of nine women, exploring their lives and struggles as women of color, was Tyler Perry’s first R-rated film. During it’s time in the box office, the film generated over $37 million.
