Black Women — The New Model of Health and Beauty: Fitness Experts Think So

Musical icons such as Mariah Carey, and Janet Jackson have been recently recruited as spokeswomen for two of the top weight loss campaigns in the U.S., but these ladies weren’t the first woman of color to star in weight-loss ads.

Queen Latifah kicked off the trend with a Weight Watchers campaign several years ago.  These promotions not only encourage healthy living in the African American community, many celebrities are able to maximize the exposure and often shore-up their fan bases. It’s important to see our favorite faces on the right track in terms of  healthy living.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that four out of five African Americans struggle with weight issues. African American women also have the highest rates of obesity when compared with other groups in the United States.  Check out the new fitness faces and tell us who’s your favorite.
