Herman Cain’s Endorsement May Hurt Newt Gingrich

Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich make strange bedfellows, indeed, and Cain’s endorsement may not add any stock to the Gingrich campaign, but, in fact, may actually cause more diversions, according to political pundits.

Cain announced over the weekend that he supported Newt Gingrich:

“I hereby officially and enthusiastically endorse Newt Gingrich for president of the United States,” said Cain.

Cain, who abruptly ended his campaign for president due to the flood of sexual harassment allegations, has “enthusiastically” endorsed Gingrich, the candidate whose ex-wife argued he wanted an open marriage.

The Cain endorsement may not have been a good one for Gingrich as there is an ever-widening gap between him and front-runner Mitt Romney, who, according to the most recent NBC/Marist poll has Gingrich beat by up by 15 points.

On Sunday, Romney had a landslide victory in the Florida polls against Gingrich and unleashed a new round of attack ads to boot.

Four new polls — conducted by NBC News, the Miami Herald, Rasmussen Reports, NBC News, and American Research Group — show that Romney is surging full steam ahead, with double-digit leads across the board.

Traveling throughout Florida, Romney told supporters, “The reason that Speaker Gingrich is having a hard time in Florida is that the people here have watched the debates.”

Romney’s camp is expecting a huge victory in Tuesday’s primary election that will help their candidate to lock in the nomination.

Gingrich showed no indication that he’ll throw in the towel, however.

“We will go all the way to the convention,” Gingrich told supporters. “I believe the Republican party will not nominate a pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-tax increase moderate from Massachusetts. This is going to be a straight up contest for the next four or five months.”

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will be awarded 50 delegates.
