The Chicago State University Foundation held a breakfast recently at Norm’s Bistro in Chicago to announce the second annual Essence of an Angel Scholarship Luncheon, which will take place on Sunday, April 1 at CSU’s Academic Library from noon to 3 p.m..
The luncheon will raise funds for single mothers who attend Chicago State University and will honor five outstanding women: Barbara Bates, owner, Bates Designs; Dorothy Brown, clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Ill.; Amy Hilliard, founder and CEO, The ComfortCake Company, LLC; Leana Flowers, retired bank executive, Urban Partnership Bank; and Kimmah Shah, CSU student and founder, Get Tight Get Right.
At CSU, over 71 percent of the student population is female and over 30 percent are single mothers.
