Whitney Houston's Mother Gives 1st Interview Since Funeral

We have heard from the rest of Whitney Houston’s family. Now it’s the mother’s turn. Cissy Houston granted her first interview since her daughter was laid to rest in her Newark, N.J., hometown last month.

Cissy Houston granted My9 of Newark an exclusive last Thursday at the New Hope Baptist Church where her legendary daughter’s funeral was held after she was found deceased on the eve of the Grammy Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif. The interview will be aired on Monday, April 2.

The matriarch was conspicuously absent from the March interview with Oprah Winfrey that featured Houston’s granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina, and Whitney’s brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Pat Houston.

According to the media leaks, Cissy Houston says her daughter “accomplished a whole lot in the short time that she had here” and “was a very wonderful person.” She says she doesn’t blame herself for what happened to her because she knows she did the best she could.

Whitney Houston’s death has been ruled an accidental drowning, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors.

The world has since learned from the final autopsy and toxicology reports that the “Greatest Love of All” singer most likely expired from a combination of heart disease, cocaine, prescription narcotics and alcohol that may have triggered a heart attack and caused her to slip in the bathtub where she was found by handlers in her Beverly Hilton hotel room.
