Software Engineers: On average, software engineers earn $104,000 annually. The employment outlook in this field is good, with demand for computer software engineers expected to increase by as much as 21% by 2018 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Computer software engineers are generally college educated, and are responsible for the design, development, testing and deployment of the computer software used in businesses and homes every day. There are two primary classifications of computer software engineers: computer applications engineers and computer systems software engineers.

Network and Security Administrators: On average, software engineers make $103,000 annually. Network security administrators perform required maintenance for installation, configuration, and updates to fire walls, and VPN connections. Security administrators plan, coordinate and implement the organization’s information security. These workers educate users about computer security, install security software, monitor networks for security breaches, respond to cyber attacks, and gather data and evidence to be used in prosecuting cyber crime. The responsibilities of security specialists have increased in recent years as cyber attacks have become more common.
