It still boggles the human imagination that an abused country girl with distinctive “African” facial features who hailed from a dysfunctional upbringing would ever become the richest black woman the world has ever seen.

Today, the empress’s media empire has her acting as a television host, producer, actress, philanthropist and creator of her OWN television station. But, of course, Oprah is best known for her talk show, which was far and away the highest-rated program of its kind ever.
