With 14 children in tow and a house that’s being maintained by public assistance checks, should a single mother treat herself to a $520 haircut? For a number of people, including the hair stylist who did it, the answer to that question is a resounding “no.”
Octomom Nadya Suleman is under scrutiny today after reportedly dishing out hundreds of dollars to have her raven locks tended to by a hair care professional.
TMZ reports that, Suleman, 36, hired a woman named Stephanie to cut and style her hair. In addition to the basic styling, Suleman also asked for a Brazilian Blowout, a process that chemically straightens the hair. The mom already owed the woman for previous haircuts, so she wrote out a check for $520 that was later documented by the gossip blog.
While tending to her ‘do, the hair stylist noticed that Suleman’s brood was missing. She later discovered that they were locked in a bedroom with a chair propped against a door to secure them in.
The stunned stylist later filed a police report claiming that the children were living in squalor. In addition to being stowed away in rooms, the children were using portable training toilets in the backyard because the home’s plumbing was malfunctioning. A plumber had reportedly been to the house but Suleman declined his $150 services because they were “too expensive.”
Suleman first made headlines in 2009 when she gave birth to octuplets. A number of people were outraged about the new additions to her family, however, because the single mom already had six other children. Additionally, Suleman was unemployed and on government assistance. She later denied having help from the government and vowed never to utilize the assistance program. Suleman changed her mind this year and accepted welfare in April.
