Mother’s Day is just around the corner and while many people are already planning how to thank their mothers, famous Hollywood mom Jada Pinkett Smith has a special Mother’s Day surprise for the world — a candid short film about love and motherhood with her daughter, Willow Smith, and her own mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, called Red Table Talks.
Pinkett Smith released a trailer of the film earlier this week, which is described as “an intimate and honest conversation about Love, Life, Fame and Family. Share the experience this Mother’s Day 5/13/2012.”
In minute and a half long clip, the three generations sit down to discuss their lives together and Banfield-Jones reveals to her granddaughter she feels as though she wasn’t the best mother to Pinkett Smith.
“You know, Jada did not have the kind of life that you have now,” Banfield-Jones explains to Willow. “I was not a good mother.”
The clip also shows Pinkett Smith’s worry about being absent from her own daughter’s life and how Willow is concerned that the women in her life don’t spend enough time together.
“I think if you hear our stories, you really ain’t gonna be too scared to tell anybody anything,” Pinkett Smith says, erupting into laughter with her mom and daughter.
And if the trailer alone already has you hooked on the Red Table Talks, Pinkett Smith is considering turning the short film into an ongoing series.
“For people to be able to sit down together and have a conversation, that’s the power of love. Love is what sometimes holds us and binds us when we’re not so happy,” Pinkett Smith says. “The Red Table will eventually represent all conversation because my belief is that communication is the best way to create strong relationships.”
