Even a new relationship with one of the biggest rappers in the world couldn’t buy Kim Kardashian a ticket into one of Hollywood’s most elite events. As previously reported, A-listers like Beyoncé, Gwyneth Paltrow, and even Kardashian’s latest boy toy Kanye West, attended the 2012 Met Gala on Tuesday, May 8. The gala, which celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute, has long been dubbed the ‘Oscar’s of the East Coast” and is only accessible to the who’s who of the celebrity world as approved by Vogue magazine.
So why wasn’t a big name celeb like Kim K invited? According to RadarOnline, Vogue‘s editor, Anna Wintour, banned the socialite from attending the occasion. “Anna hates Kim,” a source tells the website. “Why would she be invited to the event? It is all the biggest stars in the world and Kim doesn’t fit that bill at all.”
While supermodel Gisele Bundchen and her quarterback husband, Tom Brady, were allowed to attend as a couple, Kanye was left dateless even though his leading lady tried to allude to her attendance on Twitter. “Can’t wait to see all the fashions at The Met,” Kardashian wrote on the social network hours before the occasion. That, however, was a front, says the source to Radar. Even if Kardashian could afford the hefty $25,000 ticket to attend, Wintour would not allow her in.
When asked if the Armenian beauty could ever expect to grace the cover of the illustrious fashion mag, the source had this to say, “Anna Wintour would allow Kim Kardashian on the cover of Vogue over her dead body. As long as Anna in charge you will not see Kim on Vogue.”
Well, take that Kimmy!
Wintour, known for her chin-length bob and constant scowl, was rumored to have been the inspiration for the over-the-top character with outlandish demands in the book, The Devil Wears Prada. The film adaptation was released in 2006 and featured the fashionable tyrant portrayed by Meryl Streep. –danielle canada
