The family of the late Whitney Houston is set to star in a new reality show depicting their lives in the months following the singer’s untimely death. Deadline has confirmed that “The Houston Family Chronicles,” a 10-episode docu-series, is set to premiere later this year. The series will follow the lives of Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, Pat Houston, who now manages her estate; Pat’s daughter, Rayah; and Whitney’s brother, Gary. Surprisingly, Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, is on board for the project as well as Cissy Houston, the songstress’s mother. The show will air on Lifetime and also include Houston’s cousin, Dionne Warwick; and gospel legend CeCe Winans.
“The tragic loss of Whitney Houston left a void in the hearts of people all over the world, but certainly none more so than her beloved family,” said Lifetime’s EVP, Rob Sharenow. “In this series, [multiple] generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow,” he added.
With the wounds of Whitney’s untimely passing still fresh, is a reality show really the best outlet for this grieving family? That remains to be seen. Nonetheless, “The Houston Family Chronicles” should no doubt make for good ratings, much like 2005’s “Being Bobby Brown” debacle. –danielle canada
