Home Depot Partners With Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
The Home Depot Foundation, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s Rho Zeta Omega Chapter, the PEARL Foundation, and Designs by Lydia partnered to make a wish come true for Freddie Mac Foundation’s Wednesday’s Child – Maya, at the young girl’s new home in Stockbridge, Ga. Lydia Felix of Designs by Lydia provided the design concept and The Home Depot Foundation provided a $5,900 grant for furnishings. Joanne Davis and her team from the Griffin, Ga. Home Depot Store along with Stephen Frederick and his team from the Greensboro, Ga. Home Depot Store provided labor to help execute Lydia’s total redesign.
An entire suite, consisting of a bedroom, playroom, and full bath received the makeover. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Rho Zeta Omega Chapter were humbled and excited to embark on this endeavor in support of one of its Social Justice and Human Rights program initiatives – Foster Care, and more specifically, Youth Aging Out of Foster Care. Angela Bowers-Ervin, chairman of the Social Justice and Human Rights Committee, and committee members Barbara Morris and Sharyn Ellison were the inspirations behind the room makeover.
Wednesday’s Child, sponsored by the Freddie Mac Foundation, is a weekly television feature about adoption that helps find permanent, loving, adoptive families for children in foster care in Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.. The room makeover is scheduled to air in late May on Atlanta’s Fox 5’s Wednesday’s Child segment.
