In Battleship, Rihanna plays a tough military woman who is part of the crew of a Navy ship that engages in a battle with aliens. The action flick, which hit theaters on May 18, is based on the Hasbro game Battleship. In the movie, Rihanna and crew are taking part in naval war games, but end up fighting to save the world after an alien attack.
Critics turned in mixed reviews on Battleship (rated PG-13), but many seemed surprised that they actually enjoyed the movie. Jen Chaney of the Washington Post said, “But it was loud and kind of stupid in a really good way, a way that makes a person feel viscerally (if not intellectually) proud to be an American.”
In addition to Rihanna, the cast also includes Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights and John Carter), Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Brooklyn Decker (Just Go With It and What to Expect When You’re Expecting) and Liam Neeson (Wrath of the Titans and Taken). Battleship was directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights).— rachael mason
