Diddy‘s and Snoop Dogg’s sons, Justin Combs and Cordell Broadus, respectively, may not be following in their fathers’ hip-hop steps, but it looks like the two teens may be teaming up in the future to make a name for themselves as the new superstar players for UCLA’s football team.
According to USA Today, it was revealed by his high school via Twitter that Broadus, a wide receiver and sophomore at Diamond Bar High School, was recently offered a scholarship from the Bruins.
“We’re expecting him to really lead us the next three years,” Diamond Bar High School football coach Ryan Maine told ESPN LA. “Hopefully [our athletes will] get bigger, stronger, and keep leading this team.”
Of course, Broadus isn’t the only one who caught UCLA’s attention. Diddy’s son, Combs, recently graduated from New Rochelle Iona Prep in New York with a 3.75 GPA, and got scholarship offers from Illinois, Virginia and Wyoming. But late last year, Combs committed to playing for the UCLA Bruins.
However, last month, fans cried foul against UCLA for giving the teen a $54,000 football scholarship and demanded that he turn over the money to kids who really need it.
But UCLA released a statement, defending its choice in offering Combs the scholarship.
“Unlike need-based scholarships, athletic scholarships are awarded to students strictly on the basis of their athletic and academic ability — not their financial need. Athletic scholarships, such as those awarded to football or basketball players, do not rely on state funds. Instead, these scholarships are entirely funded through UCLA Athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, media contracts and private donations from supporters,” read the statement.
Well, whether fans like it or not, it looks like the Bruins may have a strong (and musically-inclined) roster in the next few years, as well as some probable appearances in the stands from Diddy and Snoop.
Anyway, congratulations to Combs and Broadus on their scholarships, and hopefully, they will score some major touchdowns as well as some major degrees. In the meantime, check out some other celebrity teen athletes below. –nicholas robinson
