Young Money, Rihanna, Performing in London
This weekend will prove to be yet another big weekend in music, now that three top acts are headlining a European festival. The 8th annual Barclaycard Wireless Festival will take place Friday, July 6, through Saturday, July 7, at London’s Hyde Park with performances from Nicki Minaj and her Young Money “brother” Drake. Also on hand, the so-called ‘Helen of Troy’, Rihanna, who’s sparked drama between Drizzy and her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. Besides the three main acts, Canadian crooner The Weekend who’s ‘House of Balloons’ mixtape garnered him widespread praise, will perform as well as actor turned rapper Childish Gambino.
Rihanna’s performance will mark her first time back on stage since the passing of her grandmother Clara “Dolly” Braithwaite. The songstress recently cancelled a performance in Spain to grieve and was offered condolences from her famous ex. “Praying for family and the lost loved one,” wrote Chris Brown on Twitter. “She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN! RIP” Since news of her grandmother’s passing broke, Rihanna’s been posting messages on her social networks dedicated to her fallen family member. Obviously racked with grief, rumors are swirling that she might be a no-show this weekend.
If you can’t make it to London to attend the festival with or without the Bajan songstress, there are several other fests to attend on this side of the pond. Check out 5 more must-see music fests this summer. -danielle canada
