Boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather was this year crowned the world’s richest athlete by Forbes magazine, knocking golfer Tiger Woods off the throne. In January 2011, he was hit with a $3,359,279 tax lien. The IRS claimed that Mayweather owed income taxes from 2009, when he was paid $25 million to emerge from retirement and reenter the ring and later in the year, earning an astounding $40 million for his 36-minute bout with “Sugar” Shane Mosley. He’s had a history of run-ins with Uncle Sam, dating back to 2008 when the feds filed a whopping $6,165,735 tax lien against the boxer for unpaid income taxes. He’s reportedly working out a payment plan with the IRS.
