After weeks of speculation, it’s finally been confirmed that Mariah Carey will sit in the judge’s chair on the next season of “American Idol.”
According to the Huffington Post, FOX entertainment president Kevin Reilly made the big announcement during a Fox executive meeting , which Mariah joined via phone.
“I’m so excited to be joining ‘Idol.’ I wanted to be there today and I wish I could’ve been there myself to tell you,” Carey told the audience. “It happened really quickly. I can’t wait to get started in a couple months. … I will see you in January.”
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with ‘American Idol,’” Carey said in a statement released shortly after the announcement.
According to AOL Music, Carey’s new deal with “American Idol” will be the most lucrative deal the show has ever done, with Carey standing to make between $12-$15 million for just one season on the show.
