Luck is the residue of desire; hard work is what gets you ahead, Major League Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig told a packed audience of students, job seekers and minority business owners during the MLB Diversity Business Summit held yesterday in Chicago.
Commissioner Selig also spoke of baseball’s hundreds of millions of dollars spent with minority and women suppliers, and its link to the Civil Rights Movement.
When African American baseball icon Jackie Robinson integrated Major League Baseball, “the sport became a leader in the Civil Rights Movement,” stated MLB Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig during his remarks at the MLB Diversity Business Summit that took place in Chicago on yesterday.
“It is a moment in baseball history that makes me proudest to be the commissioner of this great game.”
Selig continued, “Each of you have bought a ticket to be at this historic summit and you’ve made a very important step of becoming a valued partner of Major League Baseball.”
“Football needs this; the NBA needs this … this whole idea of diversity for athletics,” Rev. Jesse L. Jackson told Selig. “I hope this is the beginning of redefining business life beyond the playing field.”
