Mitt Romney announced Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, reported CNN.
The news was shared at around 7 a.m. Saturday morning via a smartphone app developed by the Romney campaign to announce the vice presidential candidate, the New York Times said. Romney made the official announcement while touring the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin in Norfolk, Va., said the Wall Street Journal.
Ryan joined Romney in Virginia for what will be the beginning of a four-day campaign tour through four battleground states. In addition to Virginia, the two will travel to North Carolina, Florida and Ohio.
The Republican Party considers Ryan, 42, to be a rising star, the New York Times said. Ryan’s first year in Congress was 1999 and he has been serving as a representative since then.
During the campaign, Romney and Ryan are expected to continue to challenge President Barack Obama’s plans for the federal budget, said the New York Times.
