Gabby Douglas Appearing on Oprah’s ‘Next Chapter’
Gabby Douglas, the 16-year-old gold medal-winning uperstar will take to television screens, not to wow us with her high-flying routines, but to sit down with Oprah Winfrey. Douglas, the first black American to win the individual all-around Olympic gold medal in gymnastics, will appear on Oprah’s “Next Chapter” to discuss her rise to the top of her sport. The candid conversation with the talk show queen will take place at Douglas’ training ground in West Des Moines, Iowa. Also interviewed will be the host family that provided Gabby a second home during her training as well as Gabby’s mother, Natalie Hawkins.
Just last week Hawkins criticized detractors that spoke out on the teen’s hair. “How ignorant is it of people to comment on her hair and she still has more competitions to go. Are you trying to ruin her self-confidence?” asked the angered mother. “She has to go out there and feel good about herself, and if she feels good about herself on that floor, who are you to criticize her?”
Gabby’s hair will no doubt be mentioned on the OWN network program. Gabby Douglas’ sit down with Winfrey will air Sunday, Aug. 26, at 8:30 p.m. EST/PST on OWN.
