Lauryn Hill Declines Oprah’s Interview Offer
While most people would be thrilled to sit down with arguably the biggest talk-show maven of our time, a former Fugees singer is proving once again that she’s truly her own person. Lauryn Hill, 37, has been in recent headlines for her tax woes and just last week posed for a mug shot. The Grammy Award-winning singer is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor tax evasion charge and is facing a possible three-year prison sentence.
Now according to Oprah, she offered the singer a chance to share her story but was actually shut down. Winfrey took to Twitter Sunday after her “Next Chapter” interview with Rihanna aired and took several questions from viewers. Oprah decided to answer one in particular about the possibility of a sit-down with the “Killing Me Softly” singer and told a fan that the interview was a no-go.
“Tried, she said no,” said Oprah after being asked if Hill would be her next interviewee. No further explanation was given for Hill’s refusal.
And while fans may be dismayed by the news, Oprah will no doubt go to great lengths to keep her “Next Chapter” interviews enticing to help her struggling OWN network. She’s already taped a segment with gymnast Gabby Douglas and previously expressed interest in interviewing George Zimmerman. Eminem and Beyonce are also said to be on her radar. -danielle canada
