Frank Ocean has only been performing for about a year, but the Channel Orange crooner stepped on stage last night and gave what was easily the best performance of the evening with his stripped-down rendition of “Thinking Bout You.” With a stage set to resemble a grassy marsh with crystal rocks and a roaring bonfire, Frank Ocean sat center stage with his lone guitarist beside him as he sang passionately in front of a starry, moonlit backdrop. Every word, every note, every falsetto croon seemed to send the audience into a fervor and cemented Frank as the standout performer of the night, even garnering a Twitter nod from Lady Gaga, who tweeted, “watch Frank Ocean steal the show. I’m dead.”
