Every few years, a teen sensation comes and takes the nation’s pop scene by storm. An up-and-coming actor and singer, Jacob Latimore is on pace to be that next teen sensation. After appearing in the film Vanishing on 7th Street and BET’s “Reed Between The Lines,” Latimore performed on the Scream Tour with Mindless Behavior and Diggy. Now preparing for the release of his debut album, it’s only a matter of time before Latimore becomes a star in his own right.
Latimore recently spoke with rolling out about his signing with Epic Records, his inspirations and the “Scream Tour.”
Your fans first saw you in film and on TV. But your first love is music. How were you introduced to music?
Music has always been in my family down to my dad through my uncle. I’m just the next generation since it’s always been around me when I was younger when I looked up to my mom and dad to Michael Jackson and B2K was my favorite band growing up.
You are signed to Epic Records. How did that come about?
There was a bidding war between Epic Records and Jive-now RCA-, which was bittersweet just having lables bid over me was really cool, but I ended up going with Jive because it felt better over there and they have my favorite artists like Usher, Chris Brown, and Justin Timberlake. It was an amazing feeling since all my hard work was finally paying off.
What was it like being on the “Scream Tour”?
It was great being around Mindless Behavior and Diggy Simmons because they’re my age. Usually, there are so many adults on the road. It was cool just to hang out with my peers after shows and it felt good to be carrying on the legacy of the Scream Tour.
What can fans expect from your album?
We don’t have a title, yet but we have good quality music coming out for everybody. Not just my peers or kids younger than me, but all ages. I have amazing writers and producers The Underdog, R. Kelly, and so many others. I’m just excited for the fans.
