This writer will appear on the next episode of “Iyanla: Fix My Life.”
The episode is titled “Iyanla: Fix My Backstabbing Friends.”
In December 2010, I envisioned a partnership of six female bloggers who shared our personal stories with other women six days a week.
When I told my boyfriend of my idea, he laughed out loud. “Six women? You’ll never do it. Sounds good, but it will never happen.”
Well, our relationship didn’t last, but in January 2011, I created The Six Brown Chicks, a group of authors who blogged about life, love and letting go of the drama.
The irony: men carried us; women destroyed us.
Jimmy Greenfield, the blog manager of ChicagoNow, a Chicago Tribune property, launched us on the site and promoted our blog heavily.
Weeks later, WCIU producers Patrick and Seth called us in for a meeting. Within a week, the WCIU team had moved heaven and earth to produce a beautiful, slick Web series for us to continue our blog conversations online.
Munson Steed, publisher of rolling out, gave us advice about strategy and support; he also joined us alongside panelists Carl West, Christopher Nolen, Kobie Randolph, DJ Vince Adams, Dwayne Hirsch, and Glenn Murray for the Black Women’s Expo debate about relationships.
We were a team of authors who enjoyed the response and love that we received from our readers.
