Tyler Perry Signs Exclusive Deal With OWN

Perry and Oprah Teaming Up for Scripted Series

After seeing success with several of his own solo productions, Tyler Perry is teaming up with one of his trusted friends for two new series. According to an official press release, Perry and his bff Oprah have formed a partnership through her OWN network. The new deal will allot him to develop series programming and other projects for the cable channel. So far he’s on board for two scripted series set to make their debuts in mid 2013, both of which he will executive-produce, write and direct both.

A number of fans found out the news directly through Perry himself who released a statement via Facebook saying, “As I sit here in Atlanta, it’s raining an abundant rain. It makes me think of my mother. She loved the rain and I do too. It is befitting that this announcement would be made on a day like today. Yes it’s true, Oprah and I have joined forces. We’ve formed a partnership for OWN and I’m super excited about it. I’ll fill you in more as we get closer to the airing of my shows. I have a lot of questions for you about this, so stay close, OK? I need your help.”

Echoing his sentiments Oprah released a similar statement praising her friend and welcoming him to her network. “I have been looking forward to the day when we would be in the position to enter the world of scripted television. That day has come,” said Winfrey.  “We are all energized by the opportunity to collaborate with Tyler who has a proven track record for producing highly successful cable series. He has an incredible ability to illuminate life stories and characters in his unique voice and inspires and encourages people all over the world.”

Besides inking deals with Perry, Oprah just recently wrapped The Butler, a Lee Daniels film starring herself, Terrence Howard and Lenny Kravitz. –danielle canada
