UniWorld’s Monique Nelson Poised for Prestigious ANA Award

UniWorld’s Monique Nelson Poised for Prestigious ANA AwardIn what UniWorld’s CEO Monique L. Nelson says “is an incredible moment,” UniWorld Group Inc., the longest-standing full-service multicultural advertising and communications agency in the U.S., has received top honors for its work from two of the industry’s most recognized organizations. The agency has been named a finalist in two categories for the Association of National Advertisers 2012 Multicultural Awards and this year snagged a nomination for a GLAAD Amplifier Award.

“This reaffirms the agency’s position as a leader in cultural engagement. We need to develop campaigns that uniquely connect our clients’ brands with the changing culture. I am pleased that UniWorld Group is responding to this new model,” Nelson says in a statement to the press.

This is a tremendous honor for Nelson who took the helm of the agency earlier this year following founder Byron Lewis’ retirement.

The agency was named an ANAfinalist in both the African American and print categories for its clients Ford Motor Company and the U.S. Marines, respectively. These awards recognize ANA member companies and other marketers who produce industry-leading multicultural advertising campaigns. The 2012 grand prize winner in each category will be announced during ANA’s 14th Annual Multicultural Marketing & Diversity Conference later this month in Miami.

UniWorld Group received its first-ever GLAAD Amplifier Award nomination, which elevates and promotes individuals and projects in advertising and public relations industries for groundbreaking representations of the LGBT community. The agency’s campaign, “Be You, With Us,” for its Marriott client was nominated in the Digital – Out and Interactive category.

UniWorld Group, a partner at this year’s Advertising Week hosted a panel discussion titled “Bridging the Gap Between Cultures and Brands: The Ultimate Power Trip.” Hosted by CEO Monique Nelson, the discussion included industry insiders: Ozioma Egwuonwu; Constance C.R. White, Essence; Jack Myers, author, Hooked Up: A New Generation’s Surprising Take on Sex, Politics and Saving the World; Stephen Palacios, Cheskin Added Value; and Ola Mobolade of Firefly Millward Brown. This Adweek was held at New York City’s Liberty Theater.
