On Sunday Oct 21, The Dreams Protected Tour townhall meeting took place in Atlanta presented by American Family Insurance. The event was held at Fox theater with an eager crowd waiting to hear celebrity guests on how they are living out their dreams. Special guests included “Extra!” host A.J. Calloway,Carol’s Daughter owner Lisa Price, editor Tanisha Sykes of Essence magazine and comedian Cedric the Entertainer. It was a great afternoon learning about people’s dreams and how to go get them.
Host A.J. Calloway talked about how his dad was a huge influence in his life and how he used to be a club promoter and owned an events company, before auditioning for 106 & Parks that launched his career. Now he is a talk show host on “Extra!”
Lisa Price the owner of Carol’s daughter, wanted to be a singer, but she knew early on she loved making beauty products. She learned the skill from her mom and often called on her when she ran into problems with her business. She remembered her first customers like Erykah Badu coming to her house in Brooklyn, NY to buy products.
Cedric the Entertainer’s mom was a huge influence on his career. She was a school teacher and education was very important in his family. He graduated from college and worked for State Farm Insurance for years, doing comedy at night. When he got confident enough, he took a leave of absence from work to start his comedy career. He did a stand up show in Dallas for Steve Harvey and has never looked back.
It was a great afternoon of laughs, inspiration and knowledge. Each speaker said it’s a lot of hard work, but you have to have passion for what you love. No one is going to give you a hand out and there will be plenty of obstacles on the road to success, but keep at it.
