Hip-hop’s affiliation with religion has remained strong since the beginning of the music-based culture. Rappers often mirror preachers with their demeanor and voice inflections while performing. Also, the words of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King continue to inspire the hip-hop culture. Although some rappers indulge in and make music about lifestyles that most religions denounce, most rappers would consider themselves religious or spiritual.
