Meet author Dion Perkins. He is an accomplished writer with a vivid imagination. He currently has a new book out titled, Blood Trails. Perkins talked to rolling out exclusively about the writing process, getting his first book published, and offered key advice for aspiring writers.
Tell us about your latest novel, Blood Trails?
Well, my latest novel Blood Trails is about a young woman who was trying to become an actress but things took a turn for the worst when her supposedly best friend sent her to a movie shoot. From that point on her life was transformed into a killer. And her only motive was revenge.
How did you get into writing novels?
Well I started writing because I found myself dreaming of these crazy stories for years and I would wake up in the middle of the night and write them down. But each dream I had was different. So I decided to write my first novel, Ghetto Child. And now I just enjoy creating stories for people to read.
When you got your first book published, how did you feel? Was it a hard process?
Well the first copy I received of my book I felt like a little kid at Christmas, I was so happy but the one thing I loved to do was turn the book over and look at my picture on the back. And the process of getting it published, I say be careful and research the company you deal with.
What’s the next book you’re working on?
The next two books I’m working on are Cigar Bar about a young Italian man who had a small habit but after his father passed he turned things around but in the process he pissed off a lot of people including the Ukrainian Mafia and a neighbor named Paulie.
My other book is called G2 crime does pay, it’s the sequel to my first book ghetto child, and the premise of this book is that they go after the men who shot down there people but they do it from the inside out.
Any advice for aspiring writers?
My advice for upcoming authors is to write, write, and write as often as possible and as much as possible. … And the most important thing I can say to upcoming authors is if you’re not enjoying it, then it’s probably not for you.
