The Spike Lee (left, playing West Indian Archie) and Washington collaboration is almost as prolific as the Robert De Niro-Martin Scorcese motion picture pairings. Malcolm X the movie was produced during the apex of Lee’s creative powers (Do the Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, Jungle Fever, etc.). Lee and Washington would come together a decade later to film the $100 million movie Inside Man.
