Angela Bassett first came to widespread urban recognition in the urban classic Boyz N the Hood, playing opposite Lawrence Fishburne. The Yale-educated thespian quickly followed up her Malcolm performance with her Oscar-nominated role as Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It?, a cameo in the equally thrilling historic feature, Panther (about the founding of the Black Panther Party), Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back before, mysteriously, roles dried up for her. Today, she is making her own opportunities. She is executive producer and star of an upcoming NBC weekly legal drama.
