Another Spike Lee favorite, Detroit native Lonette McKee began her career as a singer, scoring a pop hit as a teen before going into acting. She starred in Lee’s Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, He Got Game and She Hate Me. She also, according to imdb.com, was recognized in People magazine’s “Fifty Most Beautiful” issue. She studied film directing at The New School in New York and apprenticed film directing with Spike Lee. McKee is producing her feature film, Dream Street, and has production companies in New York. McKee is conducting her acclaimed Actor’s Workshop at City College of New York starting in February 2012. She is also producing the first ever Sparkle Live Concert series, which features the original cast from the film performing together live. McKee is featured in the new Honey 2 movie and LUV movie opposite Common, which received accolades at the Sundance Festival.
