  • Some music critics said that not only was Off the Wall a better overall album than the commercial juggernaut that was Thriller, but that Prince’s 1999 was also a more ambitious project. The album 1999 was ironically released two weeks before Thriller and yielded the hits “Little Red Corvette,” “Delirious” and the title track. But Mike had the upper hand over Prince Rogers Nelson because his videos broke the color line at MTV and opened the way for the likes of Prince, Lionel Ritchie, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker and scores of other black superstars.
