Beyoncé’s 10 most 5th grade-ish quotes

Talk show host Wendy Williams fired a major shade shot at superstar Beyoncé by claiming the singer-actress “can’t talk” and “sounds like she has a 5th grade education.” Now, we know Beyoncé got past the fifth grade (right?) and we don’t necessarily think she’s dumb. But sometimes she does sound a little … well, you know.

Here are 10 quotes from Mrs. Shawn Carter that may have you wondering if Wendy was on to something. –stereo williams

I’m sorry but you are seriously reaching. Nothing that she said in the above statements sounding dumb or slow. I guess that makes me slow as well for not picking up on where she sounds like an adult with a 5th grade education. Sorry..must be that college education.

    • Shamontiel on March 7, 2014 at 8:55 pm

      Agreed (from another college graduate).

      • bomkisha on April 25, 2014 at 3:02 am

No, it’s you. You’re just stupid. Having a college degree definitely doesn’t mean you’re not stupid. You can have a college degree and still be a retard. Beyonce is uneducated. (What’s your excuse?) I bet Beyonce reads at a 4th or 5th grade level. I think it would be hilarious to give her a standardized fifth grade reading comprehension test. She would most likely score at or below the level of the majority of fifth graders. I bet, despite your awesome college degree, you would score at or below the reading level of the majority of eighth graders and/or ninth graders. I bet the person who posted the comment you responded to would score at or below the level that most sixth or seventh graders would score. Yeah, Beyonce’s retarded. Anyone who doesn’t think she is is also most likely retarded. You, the person whose post you commented on, and Beyonce are MORE THAN LIKELY stupid fucking whores. Yup.

        • Shamontiel on April 25, 2014 at 9:06 pm

Okay, you like to say “Yup” out of nowhere. Although I find it extra lame that you feel like the only way to form an opinion is to agree with your OWN opinion (you’re one of those folks who “likes” all of your own Facebook stats too, huh?), but quite honestly, I just can’t take you seriously. The entire message above just makes me wish I hadn’t wasted time reading it. You’re throwing shade at a woman who finds you completely irrelevant. Well, scratch that. Two women who find you irrelevant. Damn, now that I think about it, I’m not even interested enough to continue replying. Carry on. *flicking wrist*

        • Ran Wise on January 25, 2015 at 5:36 pm

Wow Bomkisha, but you’re right! LOL

        • Aaron Newman on December 18, 2016 at 4:15 pm

“stupid fucking whores” lol you sound like a 3rd grader. Beyoncé dropped out of school to focus on her music career, as did most of the singers today. She had a 4.0 GPA. Nothing she said in this whole slideshow sounded dumb, she just sounded like she was talking casually. And, after reading that paragraph, you sound like you have a 3rd grade education. You have no proof that Beyoncé is uneducated, but that whole paragraph just proved that you are dumb as hell.

    • Ladybug27 on May 12, 2014 at 2:48 pm

I don’t think what she said in these quotes makes her dumb, but maybe not well-versed and/or air-headed to some degree. There are people like my husband, who thinks just like I do (which my ability to test high on intelligence tests and comprehend, and commit information to memory rapidly would prove my intelligence), but have a hard time articulating what they are thinking or intending to say. Does that make them dumb? No. But honestly, for some, a pursuit of a higher level of education or even just a broader vocabulary would do them justice. Now, does a college education prove you to be undoubtly intelligent? Not by any means. There are many people who make it through elementary, jr high, high school, and even college just meeting the bare minimum of standard courses with average grades while struggling to fathom the concepts of each subject. But with immense aid from tutoring, studying, and applying their personal best effort by doing all of their assigned work, and at least passing exams, they still manage to obtain a diploma or a college degree. At best, trying hard gets them an above average grade. Their strive makes them smart, their effort commendable; but not necessarily intelligent. Intelligent people tend to comprehend rather quickly without having to itemize the additional help.

Bump y’all for tryna go in on bee smh

    • Beyonce Hader on April 24, 2016 at 8:53 pm

      Yee yee yee muthafuckaz!

    • Beyonce Hader on April 27, 2016 at 10:25 am

And boogedy boo and a rat a tat tat! Are you actually SHAKING your head, or are you just craning it back and forth while repeatedly saying “mm hmm?” Sorry if “craning” was too big of a word for you. By the way, “tryna” is not a word. It’s “trying to.”

  3. cher on December 7, 2012 at 5:36 pm

I see nothing wrong with a young woman speaking plainly!! The writer of this article needs to
stand down. I wasted 10 click throughs on this sorry write-up!

  4. Sophie on December 8, 2012 at 6:35 am

Excuse me? Some of these statements don’t even reach 5th grade education, wow… Also, her voice is completely overrated, very good though, but not that fabulous. Maybe it’s my college education, but I agree with the writer…

    • Guest on December 18, 2016 at 4:18 pm

“Your college education..” I hate how people think they are above everyone else because they went to college. These statements are not supposed to sound intelligent, she was obviously speaking casually.

  5. Larsdyn on December 8, 2012 at 11:42 am

Wow, great compilation. I always knew she was not bright but did not realize she is “special”. Part of her problem is trying to sound deep and modest, which she hopes will differentiate her from other pop tarts. Sorry, she sounds even dumber than most. And she came out with a song about her ego? Pity that Obama refers to this as being a role model. Great job, Wendy. You are the only one to point out the emperor is naked.

    • Shamontiel on March 7, 2014 at 8:57 pm

End punctuation goes on the inside of quotation marks. When you try to read people, make sure your OWN comments are airtight. And you’re also adding a question about her “Ego” song when that’s really a statement.

      • bomkisha on April 25, 2014 at 3:04 am

Yup. You’re most likely at a middle school reading level.

        • Shamontiel on April 25, 2014 at 9:04 pm

Yes, i did get a middle school education before I went to grad school. Thanks much, bomkisha.

          • Chad Burke on May 12, 2014 at 1:10 am

Congrats. All that means is you’ve got a mountain of debt.

    • Aaron Newman on December 18, 2016 at 4:20 pm

I find it funny how everyone who thinks Beyoncé is dumb sounds like they have a 3rd grade education.

  6. L Girl on December 8, 2012 at 8:22 pm

Loved the article and, Beyonce fans need to lighten up, even Bush has some strange and funny quotes. Everything does not have to be serious, all the time. Peace

  7. BeeCause on December 9, 2012 at 11:55 am

    She’s way past dumb.

    • Ladybug27 on May 12, 2014 at 3:26 pm

Some celebrities think by trying to give more deep and meaningful replies to an interviewer’s questions, it makes them appear more intelligent. If only they would realize that people love and respect them already and that they do not have to act like they are astounding in sectors they really aren’t. She is beautiful, extraordinarily talented, rich, and vibrant. Being highly intelligent and abstract is not something she has to try to be to get admiration from others. She already very much is admired without. But some artists will never be satisfied. The deposition of a narcissist.

      • Ran Wise on January 25, 2015 at 5:40 pm

True. Sounds like she’s trying to be too perfect in every single aspect of her life. She obviously care more about what people think than she lets on if that’s her angle

  8. Vandellish on December 11, 2012 at 10:06 am

To be fair, she’s been around a good 15+ years now and was in the mainstream at 17 or 18 years old. If someone compiled a list of all of our own dumbest quotes from that age and over that span of time I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t sound much better.

Still this was cool for a good laugh or two, especially the one about ‘better than talking to a bunch of kids.’ haahhahaha

  9. t on December 11, 2012 at 12:48 pm

she just needs to stick to what she does best….look pretty….good for her for making a good life for herself, but that doesn’t mask the fact that she’s “simple” (if you know what I mean), Wendy Williams is not at fault, she is just doing what SHE does best…..stating the obvious, and saying what other people are thinking, but afraid to say. Proof is in the pudding people, stop being so sensitive….sheesh!!!!!

  10. Dee on December 15, 2012 at 10:48 am

Wendy Williams looks like a man and is very unsophisticated? She isn’t very articulate to me so she needs to stop talking about people!

  11. Deborah Edwards on December 15, 2012 at 1:14 pm

Beyonce can always learn to speak properly. She is a performer and she does what she does very well. I think Wendy was wrong for calling her out like that out of no where she comes with that.Beyonce may want to improve her communication skills better but if she doesn’t she will always be rich. Wendy gets paid to talk about people but I think sometimes she runs her mouth like she is so perfect. How would she like it if someone said she looks mannish and her husband cheated and got her sued for sexual harrassement.

    • Ladybug27 on May 12, 2014 at 3:58 pm

Well, people say this about Wendy all of the time. Does it seem to stop her from doing what she does? No. She obviously has more self-confidence then Beyonce. Being narcissistic is a psychological and emotional disorder ridden of self-esteem defiency. Am I calling Beyonce a narcissist? Yes. Because by trying to sound more intelligent then her educational background and speech and grammar (in the letter she wrote to Michelle Obama) have proven her to be, it is obvious. And before you associate money and power with an immunity to lack of self-esteem, do some pyschology research and study first, and secondly, evaluate the massive numbers of celebrities who have plastic surgery, exploit their private business to the public, and even indulge and drown themselves in addictive substances because of their unhappiness with their lives and themselves. They are people too, and financial wellness does not equate to emotional and mental wellness nor exempt any person from the woes of pyschological depression or instability as Lindsey Lohan, Chris Brown, M.J., and countless other celebrities have made evident. And I don’t want to see the objections from the butt hurt who are emotional and passionate about the livelihood of Beyonce. Your personal bias in accordance to how you “feel” about a person withdraws logic from your standpoint and reality. The reality is the truth.

      • Deborah on July 14, 2014 at 3:42 pm

What????? Where did you get that from out of my comment but since you want to go there we will. First of all I am not a Beyoncé fan but………I felt she went in on Beyoncé because she could. It was her show what I said was it was totally unnecessary it made Wendy look like she was jealous of Beyoncé. And like I said with the money Beyoncé #1 on Forbes List she can afford to get her grammer together. Like I said Bey is a performer and she is EXCELLENT at what she does. Wendy appears to be jealous of certain people especially BLACK people who have it going on. I really am not a fan of Bey so I don’t know if she has a narcissistic personality. Whether she has a education or not she probably will never be poor. Some people education is not for them but she is making a very good living. I don’t know about her unhappiness in her life but I do agree that money does not necessarily make you a happy person because you are still stuck with yourself. I love to see Beyoncé make her money but I am not a fan. Wendy I don’t like her but she has a job to do. I don’t like her platform like she has to come down on blacks but just loves white people I don’t like her. She is jealous of Beyoncé with her manly looking self. But again like I said she wants to throw everyone up under the bus but she doesn’t tell people about why she goes in on Tiger Wood’s like she did because her husband KEVIN cheats on her and she steers her anger towards them instead of her cheating husband did you see the picture on the web tell that . Again just my opinion I am not a Beyoncé nor Wendy’s fan

      • Ran Wise on January 25, 2015 at 10:38 pm

You could not have said it better. Never understood why people always associate money with happiness. Beyoncé is VERY insecure. Any woman who has to exploit herself sexually has to feel some negative feelings deep within. But these fans think she’s perfect. smh

  12. herlogic on September 3, 2013 at 8:51 pm

Dear “die hard beyonce fans” its amazing how someones beauty, sex appeal, and money over powers, well blinds, you from acknowledging the fact that articulately she is lacking when it comes to public speaking. Hint hint she rarely ever does interviews, unless she produces it herself and has the proper amount of time to script her questions and answers. (check out her speeches when she accepts her awards) Yes i like beyonce’s music, who doesn’t, but lets not be so gullible here people…
Also considering the fact that Im from Texas, it discusses many of us how she is labeled the “southern bell” as an excuse to cover up her poor speech, trust me we do not speak the same way she does but yes we do carry ourselves with class and respect, and in some ways she has done that…

    • Monica on October 1, 2013 at 12:49 pm

      It’s disgust not discusses.

    • Shamontiel on March 7, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Again, the people who are criticizing her the most may want to take a look at their own comments. “It discusses many of us”? You mean “disgusts many of us”? And try to learn what a contraction is: “it’s amazing” not “its amazing” and “let’s not” not “let’s not.” You folks who are talking about Beyonce’s education may want to reevaluate your own! And “southern belle” has an extra “e.” How is that look in the mirror working out for you?

    • Ladybug27 on May 12, 2014 at 3:32 pm

She does carry herself with class off stage.

      • Ran Wise on January 25, 2015 at 10:42 pm

Yeah maybe she does. But on stage, she does nothing higher than a stripper. What about being a lady at all times, especially in public. lol

    • Ran Wise on January 25, 2015 at 10:41 pm

I understood what you meant, with the disgust word. People are blind to her flaws. And they haven’t come to terms with one simple fact: Everyone has flaws, even the perfect Beyoncé Carter. lol

    • truth tellsall on August 10, 2016 at 9:47 am

Beyonces music is garbage. The lyric for bow down were as awful as most rap songs and anyone who says the nword is automatically stupid.

      • Aaron Newman on December 18, 2016 at 4:27 pm

Bow Down is just a fun song for entertainment. It’s not meant to be that deep, unless you are talking about the song “***Flawless” which is a feminist anthem. And if anybody who says the n-word is considered stupid, then there is literally no such thing as a smart person.

    • Aaron Newman on December 18, 2016 at 4:23 pm

At least Beyoncé knows the difference between “discuss” and “disgust”. And the words “bell” and “belle”.

  13. Shamontiel on March 7, 2014 at 8:54 pm

I read about five of these and then realized Rolling Out is REALLY reaching with this entry. You’re criticizing her for being proud of her talent and not modest, but nothing about these statements make her sound less educated. The only one that remotely came close was the one about England. However, that’s a matter of her talking about accents moreso than grammar. You could’ve kept this idea to yourself.

  14. YesCubanB on May 14, 2014 at 10:10 am

God, I remember back in HS (original Destiny’s Child era) I had a bit of a celeb crush on her until she started doing interviews. When she talks it’s definitely a turn-off. With that said though, a lot of the hate she receives is just straight up malicious and unwarranted. Since when is it a crime to be stupid? People come into this world with different levels of intelligence. Not everyone processes info the same. Doesnt make them a bad person nor is it something that they can help. We are all dumber than a box of rocks to someone, unless you just happen to literally be the smartest person in the world. I have no idea if she’s a bad person or not. She tends to keep her private life very private. Now compare to someone like Sarah Palin. An idiot beyond belief and just an all around bad person (under the guise of trying to be witty and clever). She deserves all the hate and horrible things we say about her thrown her way times 100. Now with THAT also being said… A few of the examples here were hilarious.

    • Ran Wise on January 25, 2015 at 10:46 pm

You’re right, bro. It is no crime to be stupid. LOL. However, people need to quit lifting her up on a pedestal. It is human nature for people to automatically find fault when someone is presented to be better than others. I think that’s where the problem is when it comes to fans vs. non-fans. I guess people get tired of seeing her, tired of her talking about how humble she is, yet gyrates in the faces of men on stage and in videos. People have detected a bit of hypocrisy there, and I give people credit for being independent thinkers and not just going along with popular opinion. But you said it right, though.

    • truth tellsall on August 10, 2016 at 9:50 am

Typical American. “What’s wronv with being stupid”?

You idiots always celebrate stupidity. Stupid people are annoying and give smart people headaches. I guess you wouldnt know anything about that though.

  15. jeff cole on June 8, 2014 at 7:34 pm

What does Cow Tits Williams think she can run her mouth. She had big cans and then had them made bigger. She’s going to look like a overstuffed bear with tits in 10 years. The intro to her show is enough to make you trun the channel. The sack factor for Wendy is coming soon. Beyounce will look good for years to come and is smart enough not to listen to some BOZO looking for press to talk about her. She’ll just be a pretty piece of ass, who cares what comes out of her mouth, I.m more interested what I could put in it and spoil the pretty little thing. Wendy Williams all I think about is when she will start buying hay by the bails and grazing live on TV. She certainly is not pretty and had an add body bfore she added the larger udders.

  16. Corjewr4 on September 13, 2014 at 8:53 pm

I don’t feel like the quotes were dumb, maybe a tad air-headed. But I’m not surprised, she doesn’t write her own music, nor comes up with her dances. Just a pretty face, a body and a voice. She sounds more like a 15 year old girl. Maybe not 5th grader, that’s a tad exaggerated.

    • Ran Wise on January 25, 2015 at 10:50 pm

Yep! Sounds like she’s about 15, that’s still more than half the age she is. Still a shame. Most women in their early/mid 30s come off way more articulate than that. I think the way she expresses herself shows something is lacking when it comes to not having dealt with the same life issues as people her peer age group. Maybe she thinks sounding so childish makes her look cute. Who knows. funny as heck

  17. mary on October 22, 2015 at 10:39 am

sorry she sounds dumb as a brick, self-obsessed and just plain sad—

  18. johnabbenda1 on February 8, 2016 at 7:02 pm

She is as dumb as a bag of rocks. Classless, clueless, vacuous and self absorbed would be the only way to describe her.

  19. Beyonce Hader on April 24, 2016 at 8:53 pm

Well the fact that you think “Nothing that she said in the above statements sounding dumb or slow” confirms you are slow. Maybe what you meant to say was “Nothing that she said in the above statements SOUNDS dumb or slow?”

  20. Beyonce Hader on April 25, 2016 at 8:50 pm

Boogedy boogedy boo and a rat-a-tat-tat. Who am you? Have you noticed that the diehard fans of her have difficulty constructing even the most rudimentary sentence without using ghetto slang and nonwords?

  21. M Edward L on April 26, 2016 at 7:54 am

^To qualify this, I am WHITE, Texan, and a proud American:
That Texas malato girl is all about privilege; she only succeeded because she is somewhere between white and brown–HELL! She ain’t even approaching black skin color! And of course, her toned down facial features; she might as well be a generic multi-cultural Barbie Doll. That silver-spoon-in-the-mouth kid never wanted for nothing, then she comes out during Super Bowl, claiming “I’m a negro” and so on. I hate her with a huge hate, because she takes too much from real black girls of real black color and big noses and big lips and so on (I know that sounds like a stereotype, but hey–black people in general do have broader noses and bigger lips than the average Western European). F’ that privileged, spoiled rotten daddy’s baby. Yeah, she can yodel, but so can 100,000 other black women. She got famous, because she don’t look BLACK.

  22. truth tellsall on August 10, 2016 at 9:43 am

Lol shes sounds really stupid. But you both probably have the same IQ level.

  23. Vincente Lime on November 19, 2016 at 12:23 am

England didn’t invent the English language.

  24. Guest on December 18, 2016 at 4:16 pm

    She’s talking casually, she doesn’t sound dumb…

  25. KimberJem on June 21, 2017 at 2:55 pm

”I didn’t like school when I was there, but I miss the social life in school. But that’s just something you have to give up. It’s way better performing and meeting celebrities and accomplishing your dreams than talking to a bunch of kids.”

Did she really say this?? I wish there were sources.
