Georgia teen accused of killing 2-year-old sister denied bond

TyAsia Jackson, a 13-year-old accused of killing her 2-year-old half-sister in DeKalb County, Ga., has been denied bond.

TyAsia Jackson was arrested Nov. 19 for the murder of Sasha Ray.

According to: WGCL-TV, Atlanta:

TyAsia is being tried as an adult, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted Wednesday.

“The victim was stabbed approximately seven times in the chest area. The defendant admitted to police she committed the crime,” prosecutor Darius Pattillo said in DeKalb County Superior Court on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Jackson’s attorney Melanie Williams asked that a signature bond be issued that would have placed the eighth-grader in her great-grandmother’s custody, adding the suspect’s family supports her release from the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center where she has spent the past 22 days.

“It’s early in the process for me,” DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Mark Anthony Scott said. “I believe she poses a significant threat. I have some concerns right now. Frankly, I need more before I let her go home.”

Reports also state that Judge Mark Anthony Scott may reconsider his decision on bond.
